Fran Molon (Larry Dahlke) is a down-on-his-luck bedding salesman stuck selling futons in a store where the only money is in mattresses. Rick (Chris Stack) is the store’s only mattress salesman and the same bully that’s ruined Fran’s life since high school. Fran sees an opportunity for advancement--and a chance to sell mattresses--when an assistant manager position opens up at the store; unfortunately, Rick has already been guaranteed the job by the store’s manager, Stan (Darrell Francis). When Fran implies that his deceased father, a champion runner, could beat Rick in a running race, Rick’s ego gets the better of him and he challenges Fran to a bet: If Fran can beat Rick in the local mini marathon, he’ll withdraw his application for the assistant manager position handing Fran the job.
