Reading of "Set Up" at Steep Theatre
My next project here in Chicago is a reading of Set Up, a play by Dan Noonan.  In it I play a lawyer on a very awkward blind date.  Unfortunately, I'm the one making it awkward!  But the push and pull between the two has many twists, turns and surprises.

Set Up stars the magnificent Kristie Berger and is directed by Sarah Whitney.  The reading is free and open to the public.  Hope to see you there.

Where:  Steep Theatre, 1115 W Berwyn Ave, 60640 (one block north of Foster and one block east of Broadway). www.steeptheatre.com

When: Sat., Nov 28th., 8:00 pm.

Fassi Goboggan and the Curly Headed Girl
Sorry to talk about this after the fact, but I had the wonderful opportunity of performing in and being musical director for a reading of a new musical by Pat Byrnes called Fassi Goboggan and the Curly Headed Girl at Theatre Building Chicago.

This wonderful show for children follows the imaginative adventures of Fassi Goboggan, an imaginary friend who thinks that he's the real person!  The Curly Headed Girl, whose name is Sarah, has imagined him to help take away the pain of her father being away at war. [see the press release here]

Marvelous cast.  Beautiful show.  Another great experience at Theatre Building Chicago.

New Website
Welcome to the new LarryDahlke.com!  It got a sorely needed refresh courtesy of my big brother.  He's an automobile magician by trade, but it's becoming increasingly clear that he can do any darn thing he wants to!

You can see more of his handiwork at his website at www.inetautomotive.com.
The Spark – Hannah Senesh

I will be participating Theatre Building Chicago’s Monday Night Musical series for a presentation of The Spark – Hannah Senesh on Monday, October 26, 2009 at 7pm.  This is a musical in development by Noelle Donfeld and Sandy Shanin.  I will be reading multiple roles and playing violin.

From Theatre Building Chicago’s website:

How does a woman with a poet’s heart develop a warrior’s courage as she faces her brutal Nazi interrogator?

Stark reality surrounds Hannah Senesh, a 23-year old Jewish Hungarian who has been captured by the Nazis after parachuting behind enemy lines in an attempt to save Hungary’s Jews. To withstand the harsh interrogations of the Warden, who wants Hannah to reveal the code to her military radio, she mentally escapes by reliving joyous times from her youth in Budapest and her years “working the land” in Palestine. Back In Chicago!

As of August 27th, I am once again calling Chicagoland home.

For the past four years, I have been a resident actor at Wayside Theatre in beautiful Middletown, VA.  I had the good fortune of appearing in 25 productions on their stage.

It was time for a move, though, and after spending the summer at the historic Totem Pole Playhouse in Fayetteville, PA, it was time for a return to Chicago.

So the auditioning begins in earnest!  In the meantime, I’m working on an adaptation of a children’s book that I plan to begin workshopping in October.  That should keep me off the streets.

Finishing The Summer At Totem Pole

The curtain has just come down on I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, the final show of the 2009 season at Totem Pole Playhouse.

It was a true honor to work there this summer.  The theater has a long and unique history and it feels good to have been a part of that.

Totem Pole..and meIn a few days, I’ll talk about what’s coming up.

NOW PLAYING - I Love You, Your're Perfect, Now Change

26-change.jpg

Larry will complete his 3-show run at Totem Pole Playhouse with the romantic comedy review I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change.

This review takes you through the history of relationships from Adam & Eve forward!

Larry is half of the orchestra for this show!  He is playing violin along with the marvelous Darren Server on keyboard.

ILYYPNC (hmm, not the best acronym) runs through August 23.  For tickets call the Totem Pole Box Office at 888.805.7056 or click here.

NOW PLAYING - I Hate Hamlet

23-hatehamlet.jpg

Larry continues his three-show run at Totem Pole Playhouse with the wonderful comedy I Hate Hamlet by Paul Rudnick.

Andrew Rally, a television star whose series has just ended, has the chance to play Hamlet for Shakespeare in the Park.  He rents an apartment in New York that used to belong to the late, great Shakespearean actor John Barrymore.  He hopes to get a little inspiration from the apartment, but gets more than he bargains for when he is visited by John Barrymore’s ghost.

Larry plays Gary Peter Lefkowitz, a Writer-Producer-Director who gave Andrew his big break.  He is very LA, and can’t understand why Andrew would stoop to do…ugh…THEATER!

I Hate Hamlet runs through July 12.  Tickets are available online or by calling the box office at 1(888)805-7056.
